Tracert shows 1 hop to external IP

by jim_maclachlan . Updated 20 years, 3 months ago

On my Windows XP desktop, 2003 servers & an Ubuntu desktop, a tracert to an external site shows just one hop. On another XP desktop, it shows multiple hops, 19 of them, which is correct. Any ideas as to what causes this?

I have checked the host files, cleared the dns & arp caches. I’ve tried pathping & it does the same thing. I’ve looked closely at the IPConfig of both XP PC’s & the only difference I found was a difference in node type. I changed mine from a peer to a hybrid, the same as the one with the correct tracert, rebooted & have the same results. The Ubuntu Linux box is on DHCP. The 2 XP boxes are static IP, but another one on DHCP correctly traces it through 19 hops.

Here is what I get:
C:\>tracert yardiaspla2.com
Tracing route to yardiaspla2.com [64.70.8.160]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 182 ms 90 ms 84 ms asp1-64-70-8-160.yardi.com [64.70.8.160]

Trace complete.

I’ve rebooted the servers & firewall & all PC’s. Nothing has helped. I swear it wasn’t acting like this a couple of weeks ago & I haven’t made any changes to the network that I am aware of. Any help appreciated.
