I am helping a colleague transfer her files from an old Windows 98 laptop to her new Vista machine. So far, everything has gone smoothly with small data files. For reasons unknown to myself, her USB drives are not compatible and we have not been able to successfully attach an external hard drive or flash drive to the old laptop.
Now, she has several extremely large files that I can not send to the mail server (103MBs). To make matters even more difficult, the computer does not show up on her LAN making file sharing between the machine next to impossible. I have been able to get around this by sending emails containing small file attachments to myself, and then receiving them on the newer machine.
The other network administrator I work with suggested purchasing an IDE/ATA/ to USB 2.0 device (check here: http://www.newertech.com/products/products_univ_adptr.php)
However, I am wondering if the hardware is compatible with Windows 98. Has anyone had any experience doing this? Any solutions, (preferably low or no- cost) would be greatly appreciated!
