    Trashed FAT from HP devices and Netscape

    I have been fighting with a Windows 95B system since Jan. I have managed to identify the programs that are “fighting” but can’t resolve the conflict. System is on a 5 station peer to peer network using a 3Com NIC. It has HP scanner and 4000TN running jetadmin. This configuration has been working for over 18 months. First problem to show up was that the printer was not recognized. A reboot would fix that one but it did not stop there. The only thing that had changed was an upgrade from Netscape 4.5 to 4.7 (currently it has 4.73). This would happen every time Netscape was opened more than twice to check email without rebooting the machine. Within a week a reboot would produce .vxd errors for Netscape and then started trashing the FAT. I haveupgraded all drivers and apps and even reinstalled Windows. The longest stability is 3.5 weeks.
    Without DiskClone I would be totally insane. Please help!

      sounds like major problems::

      some things to try:
      i highly recommend using win98 2nd edition much more stable than win95.. plsu that disk clone may contain the corrupted vxd erros…try do a fresh install i know its a bitch but sometimes thats the best way… also download the full version of netscape 4.73 dont use the upgrade file… soemthing must have caused the apps to cause all sorts of errors…. definetly use 98 much more stable than 95, and also do a complete fdisk, reformat then re-install…..

        All windows patches were applied and the 4.73 was full download and installed with all previous removed. Win install was done from reformat but not fdisk. If I change OS it will be to 2000. Thanks

      After reinstalling windows, did you download all the fixes and SPs for Windows including IE?
      remember that IE is a active part of your OS. Try installing IE 5.01 to the system, Java and ActiveX from Microsoft. Even if you don’t use it, keep them updated.
