Unable to create files, access denied

By es.tan ·
I have encountered network folder problem in windows 2003 server.
User seems can't create any files and folder in the network folder; despite the network folder already granted necssary permission and allow group of users to access with modify permission.

system always prompts "unable to create files, access denied..."

Would appreciate if anyone could assist me on this issue.

W2K3 Folder access

assuming a share userfolder on server1, user connects to \\server1\userfolder

Check the share permissions and the NTFS permissions on the userfolder. The effective permission is the most restrictive of the two.

e.g. If the share permission is 'READ only', no matter what NTFS permissions are on folder, user will have 'read only' access. On the other hand, if share permission is 'FULL', and NTFS permission is 'read only', user will only be able to read the exisiting files.

We used to grant 'FULL' permission at the share level for the user groups and then grant proper NTFS permissions to restrict whether user can read/modify. . ..
