Unable to get to the START Menu

By lmayeda ·
When my user moves the cursor to the START button, he gets "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and will shut down. The same problem exists when booting in SAFE more. He is able to access the internet but nothing from Windows explorer. The most recent Symantec scan a couple days ago was clean. Unable to re-run scan or Spybot or Adaware from START menu because unable to get to START menu. He said that he deleted some items from his Documents and Settings, Start Menu. Rebooting to Last Known Good Configuration does not help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the user cannot get the start menu try using the shortcut keys on the keyboard, try hitting the windows logo on the keyboard see if this brings up the start menu lease then you have something to work with.

Check that the user has not hidin his task bar this would also be the case of missing start menu, finally it might be a application at startup crashing the explorer this is what to do run msconfig from the run menu then disable all startup items enable one by one to explorer crashes again then you have fround your problem reinstall the program or del if not needed hope this helps you out.
