unable to ping PC

By n.venu ·
I have a Windows domain. I am unable to connect to a particular PC, say, A from other PCs. When pinged from other PCs it gives request timed out but from PC A I have been able to ping others and also able to open shares on them. I have no firewall.

Firewall on PC A?

by Toivo Talikka In reply to unable to ping PC

You say you have no firewall. What about PC A which you cannot ping from other PCs? Does it have Windows Firewall turned on? Does it run some 'internet security' application which may block all the ports by default?

If you turn on File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks in the Properties of the local area network connection in PC A, it should reply to pings, or the incoming ICMP Echo Requests.

Is the PC in the same physical network?

by jlouras In reply to unable to ping PC

If the PC is not in the same network (same switch or router) it can have a sort of external firewall between that and the other PCs.

Check Windows Group Policies to ensure that no strange tweaks are turned on.

But like it was already said, the PC most likely is firewalled.
