By sandeep_pathare ·
Hi,

I am working as network executive. I have problem in accessing the ftp even though the relevant policy has been added to the firewall. Also I had mentioned DNS of ISP in node & open the DNS port on firewall. When I tried to access the ftp it ask me for the user id & password & then it tries to retrive the content of the site but its taking much time & till that time its giving the error of time out. Please help me to resolve this problem.

Check your FTP client

Sandeep,

Are you using an FTP client or are you trying to access the FTP with Internet Explorer or the Windows Command Line?

If you're not using an FTP client then I'd recommend trying it with a free FTP client like SmartFTP (http://software.techrepublic.com.com/download.aspx?&kw=smart+ftp&c=1&docid=265293).

I've had similar problems when trying to access FTP with IE. Some of it is due to some flakiness with IE but there are also some configuration settings that you can tweak. Go into Internet Options and go to the Advanced tab. Make sure "Enable FTP folder view" is checked and that "Use Passive FTP" is checked if you're behind NAT or a firewall (which it sounds like you are).

Hope that helps!

Jason
