Unable to write to C: and Scandisk on ev

By hoochdaddie ·
We are using a fairly new IBM P3, and every once in a while it goes to the blue screen of death and gives the error unable to write to C: data or files may be lost.

Also on every restart it runs scandisk. Without finding any errors!

Any help would be appreciated!

Unable to write to C: and Scandisk on ev

by chanakya.geo In reply to Unable to write to C: and ...

There seems to be something wrong with your hard disk media. It would be better if you call your hardware vendor and ask to check the hard disk thoroughly or check it yourself using a disk surface testing utility (such as norton).

As far as Scandisk on every boot, it is possible that the FAT system got damaged and the OS is not able to reset the flag that he uses (probably unable to remove/modify a file [which may be the flag] ) to check if the system lost power abruptly. This also may be attributed to the above faulty hard disk drive.

Hope this helped.

Hi,

Try running with the PC chassis open and use
a fan to cool the HD. You may have an over-heating problem.

You should do a thorough scandisk and automatically fix errors. That way the scandisk will label all bad sectors on your hard disk and wont write to them. After that do a defrag.

I agree with the other answers that you're looking at a present and future drive failure. If this machine is under warranty, you need to contact Big Blue and get some guidance as to how to document the situation properly so you can get it fixed before it goes down for the count.

A thorough Scandisk is a good temporary measure but these errors are worrisome and should not be occurring in a fairly new machine.
