    unbootable windows ME

    Why on Athalon 1330 system do i get multiple devices causing unbootable conflict even though I remove them in safe mode?40G HARD DRIVE,512M MEMORY,32MGIGABYTE VIDEO ADAPTER,NORTON2002,GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD, ONBOARD SOUND

      1. Drop the RAM back to 256MB, or 384MB.
      You may have a configuration that bumps your system into the Windows 9X/Me RAM wall.

      2. Make sure that the motherboard is setting the CPU clock speed properly.
      It may detect the CPU properly, but may be setting the clock wrong in BIOS settings.
      I have fixed several reluctant socket A systems by manually setting the clock speed in BIOS settings.

      Next, disable all on-board devices in BIOS settings (sound, ports, etc) and see if you can boot then.

      While I do agree with the above post, you need to try booting first with just the minimum. I would try first disabling the onboard sound, disbale any onboard USB. Just boot with video (set to 640×480), mouse and keyboard. If you get it to successfully boot, then add a component (just one component at a time though) until you find the culprit device or setting.
