Undeletable file on hard drive

By labazzo ·
I have a file named RB32.exe on my hard drive. I try to delete it but it will not allow me to. I get an error message saying Access denied, source file may be in use. How do I delete it? I believe it is from some program that was installed but removed it left this. My firewall tells me that is is trying to access the internet but I block it.

Undeletable file on hard drive

The only info I found on the program suggests that it is part of some adware / spyware.

4 options:

Boot into safe mode. See if you can delete the file.

Boot from a DOS bootdisk. Navigate to the folder. Delete the file.

Use selective startup, and verify that the file is not running.

Download and run AdAware from www.lavasoft.de
This program will find and remove many adware programs for you.

Tried adAware. It did not remove the file.

According to;www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm#R

The file is an adult dialer.
X RapidBlaster rb32.exe Homepage hijacker (adult content) - see this newsgroup thread.

Follow the above pacs-portal link to see the newsgroup thread. (Reprinted here for ease)

"thanks rob...i checked my msconfig file and there was this program
"rapidblaster" in my start up file...i dont remember downloading it or
installing it...so i first went into "add/remove programs" and when i click
on remove rapidblaster, a web page full of adult content popped up asking me
why i wanted to remove the program. i closed the window and uncheck the box
in my msconfig file...thanks for the help

Sooo, first see if this file is listed as a start-up file, ck the start up folder first, then the start-up tab in msconfig., these usually will also add a connection in IE for the dialer.
Check your connections area & remove the dialer connection to the offending connection.

An easy utility to use to remove it from the startup tab & folder area would be the "Perfect Companion" utility by www.easydesksoftware.com
by using the startup file editor that comes as part of the program (many others out there also), just don't use the included registry cleaner unless you are experienced in doing so, but the startup file editor portion is real easy to use & fairly safe if you know anything about what isnecessary & what isn't to run Windows. If not the pacs-portal list is great to help you learn.

Good Luck. Should you need any help in using the utility just e-mail me for help.
