Unwanted Porn Ads

By frank.gruver ·
A friend of mine continues to receive popups from porn providers. He usually gets these when he first starts Windows XP. We've cleaned the cookies, temp files, internet history, installed Pest Patrol and yet it continues. Any suggestions?

I know that the Friendly Greetings worm would make porn popup adds appear on the infected workstations. Originally the anti-virus companies were not going to detect this as a virus (since, if you read up on it, you will see that it really was a program with virus-like tendenicies), but they changed their minds.
So, I suggest you run a up-to-date anti-virus scan.

Here is some info on the Friendly Greetings worm:

(please remove any spaces)

It became very widespread, so maybe your friend got hit with it.

hope this helps
