Use a KVM Switch

by James_Mio In reply to upgrade server room

One simple solution to lugging the monitor around whenever you change servers would be to buy a KVM switch, this allows you to run multiple servers (or PC's) from a single Keyboard, Mouse & Monitor.

These are not expensive and very very simple to install.

shorten the wires, label the cables, KVM switch!

by brian In reply to upgrade server room

another thing you can do is get shorter wires so they look nicer when you get them all plugged in (or create your own). this eliminates the "spagetti" effect from your server room. I would aso agree with the above posts and use a KVM switch which eliminates the need for two monitors, keyboards, and mice. be sure to place your servers where they can get enough air to keep cool, but where they are easily accessable, and also be sure to label which is which before moving so they get plugged into the correct network. Label everything neatly (number the cables and the port they plug into inside the server room, and figure out where they are going outside the server room i.e. the client workstation) because this will help you in the future when it comes to checking cables and network problems.
