    by pete268 ·

    I have an xp 2200, 512 mb 333 ram, 70Gb HDD, win 98se.
I am trying to upgrade to win2k sp2. I get as far as loading (partially) the database to check the compatibility of my componants and I get a message (after a while saying I have not got enough memory. I have a feeling I need to adjust some thing in the ABIT KX7 333R motherboard CMOS, but I am at a loss to see what.

Insert w2k CD, don’t let it execute, go into cdrom:\i386, then type winnt32 /checkupgradeonly

It will check all of your hardware only. And will tell you if anything will be wrong.

This may be related to the W98 large memory bug.

I recommend that you back up your critical files, and format the drive.
Then, you can install W2K in a clean fresh environment.

If your W2K CD is an upgrade version, you should only need to insert your W98 CD to prove that you are eligible for the upgrade.
