USB Keyboard and CDRW

By myjunk2 ·
I am using an USB adapter for my keyboard and when I installed a Phillips CDRW, the CDRW did not load up. When I took out the USB adapter and just used the regular PS/2 connection, the CDRW loaded up fine. I don't know what the deal is with the Phillips CDRW. Other CDROMs work fine. Thanks.

USB Keyboard and CDRW

Is the Philips drive an internal or external drive?

If internal, the USB adapter may be using the same hardware IRQ as the IDE controller.
While Windows will set up IRQ sharing, some devices do not play together well and are not willing to sharea hardware IRQ.

You can try placing the USB adapter in a different slot. This will usually change the hardware IRQ.

If the drive is an external USB drive, I suspect that the combination of the keyboard and the drive needs more power from the 5volt line than the USB card provides.
Try connecting a powered USB hub, and connect the CD drive to the output side of the hub.
