USB printer and USB mouse conflict

By JRD401 ·
I have a compaq IJ600 USB printer and a Logitech cordless optical USB mouse. Whenever I print the mouse is disabled while the printer is active and for about 2-3 minutes afterwards. It's not a big problem, but if I want to click on 'cancel print' I can't do it. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

1. Swap the cables. The port that the printer is plugged into may have a higher priority than the one the mouse is plugged into.

2. If your motherboard supports it, enable and connect the additional USB ports.
Connect one device or the other tothe additional ports.

3. Install a USB 2.0 card and use it instead.

4. Try updated drivers for each device.

I tried swapping cables but the problem persists. I'm going to try a USB-to-PS/2 adapter and plug the mouse into the PS/2 port. My old (non-optical) mouse worked fine using the PS/2 port.

I ended up attaching my printer to the parallel port and leaving my mouse as a USB. This resolved the problem. Your answer helped in that it got me thinking about USB port conflict. Thanks.
