    usb printer

    Locked

    by roldan_v ·

    Hi all,
I just bought an epson multi function printer and every time I try to install it it installs the software and everything and when it gets to the screen where it says now plug the printer into the usb port so the program can configure the port it comes back printer not found. I have 4 usb ports on my comp and I know they all work fine because I have other usb appliances and I plugged the modem which is working fine into each of the 4 ports and it worked fine on all of them. I though it might be a faulty cable so I used the printers usb cable on my modem and it worked fine. So I called epson tech support and of course they told me it was a problem with my usb ports and not the printer. The printer does print as I was able to print a test page by pushing a button on the actual printer so I know it works. I think this must be an issue with windows xp but I have no idea how to fix it.
I am running on windows xp home edition
If anyone knows if or how I can get my usb printer working please reply. Thank You

When you reach the stage of plugging in the Printer and get nothing shut down and restart with the printer turned on.

Some Patches to XP prevented unattached USB ports or at least unattached devices from being recognised after the system was booted so try rebooting with the Printer switched on and see if the Software install completes then.

If it doesn’t take the unit back and get either a replacement or a refund. At that time Epson will offer you much more help that they have previously because you are unwilling to put up with a second rate service.

Unplug your printer. Open Device Manager, click on View menu, click on Show Hidden Devices. Try to find your printer listed and remove it. Also remove any Unknown USB devices. Power up and reconnect your printer, XP should detect it now.
