Use RemoteScan for scanning with Citrix or Terminal Services

by ssaroff In reply to using local scanner with ...

The accepted way to do it is with the 3rd party app, RemoteScan, from

Works with all versions of Citrix and all versions of Windows Terminal Services.

From their web site:
With RemoteScan? software, scanners connected directly to client workstations can be accessed by any software running on Windows? Terminal Services or Citrix? servers. In addition, RemoteScan? is a software solution that turns any document scanner, ID or card scanner, flatbed scanner, or any other imaging device, into a network device right out of the box. With RemoteScan?, ordinary as well as high-end scanners can now be shared with other PCs or Thin Clients across your entire network.

Works with all TWAIN or WIA scanners and all software packages. RemoteScan installs in minutes, does not appreciably load network traffic and does not compromise network security.

I agree, as TWAIN driver than can pass through Citrix to desktop will work

but the challenge lies in finding such an application and driver that is Citrix aware.

All TWAIN scanners work with RemoteScan

by ssaroff In reply to I agree, as TWAIN driver ...

As long as the scanner has either a TWAIN or a WIA driver, then it can just be installed directly onto the PC or XPe thin client. Any application that is then running on the Terminal Server or Citrix server will then be able to directly access the scanner as long as the application includes scanning functionality (ie, such as in Microsoft Word, the Insert->image->from_scanner, etc.).

RemoteScan works with all versions of Terminal Server and all versions of Citrix, and just uses the RDP and ICA protocols.
