Using NetDiag Exe

By okugops ·
Hi to all,

I just want to check whether the DNS i configured is correct or not by using the following command in the command window:

Netdiag.exe /fix

Error i got
-----------
DNS test . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
[FATAL] Failed to fix: DC DNS entry _kerberos._udp.sofacc.com. re-registerat
ion on DNS server.

This is something related to kerberos certification i don't know how to fix this. Anyone please help to resolve this problem. Is there is any ready tool is available?

Thanks
Gops

Will need more info - what OS is the client using, is the DNS setup internal to your network or is it external? If your using XP, are you on a NT, 2k or 2k3 domain? Let us know and we will try to assist.

Thank you for your reply. Here the answer for your questions:

1. Our server OS is Windows 2000 server.
2. Client OS is Windows 98, Windows XP and Windows 2000.
3. Our DNS is external.
4. Our server is Windows 2000 domain.

We are awaiting for your reply and in the meantime we tried to download the Kerberos certification tool but we can't find the tool in website. Kindly advice me in this matter also.

Thanks
Gopalan M.

OK... looks like the problem is not your DNS - its the DNS server - which is external to you. What problems are you having. The easiest way to test is try an:

nslookup domainname

if this works, your getting DNS resolution.
Now - it looks like your DC is needing to be registered on DNS as sofacc.com - is this accurate? If so - You will have to contact your vendor and have them modify their DNS records. With DNS external to you, they control what is listed.

If I am really misunderstanding the problem, let me know.

Luck.

The more I look at it the more it looks like an external DNS issue - My exterior DNS server (bellsouth) does not know whom sofacc.com is. Granted, I could be being dense and you changed your domain name for security purposes... but if it IS sofacc.com - then talk to your service provider about adding you to their authoritative DNS - so its propogated out. Again, if I am misunderstanding, then laff and clarify.
Luck.
