Video Problem

By vbvjain ·
I have P-4 1.6GHz,Intel D850 board, external SIS300/305graphics card,128MB RD RAM. Any movie file in Windows Media Player(WMP)is not working fine. it is playing it in frames and the sound also jumps in frames with picture. although the same file is working fine in Xing Player. i have already tried with reinstalling windows and also changing to WMP9.0 but still no effect. kindly suggest a solution.

Which version of Windows?

If W2K or XP, increase RAM too at least 256MB.
Media player is MUCH more RAM hungry than Xing.

If W98 or Me, make sure that you have the latest drivers for the Intel Chip-set, and the SiS card.
Install the version of DirectX that is supported by the SiS driver.
Increase RAM to between 196MB and 384MB.

Check for programs running at startup.
Disable as many program icons in the system tray as possible.
Run msconfig, and disable any applications that run at startup that you do not need.

Stupid as it sounds....

If it/they play in Xing and not in WMP.... Why bother trying to get WMP to work better?

Apparently Xing is less of a system-hog, from what was said before. And if it does the job.....

Just my 2 cents.

Good Luck!

Check BIOS settings for a USE IRQ for video and enable if needed.

Also ensure that you have a big enough pagefile, although if the movie works fine in Xing it's probably OK.

Like TheChas said, update drivers for the video card, and free up as many system resources as possible.
