    Video Problem

    Locked

    by markspencer ·

Gateway PC running Windows 98. After it has been off for a couple of days, the system boots with garbled graphics. The screen is filled with about one-half inch staggered squares of the same thing. I have noticed that it is whereever the mouse is pointing that gets displayed. For example . if the pointer is on the time, the screen is filled with the time. If it is on an icon, that icon fills the screen.
It appears that this is happening during the boot process as well as when it enters Windows.

I have removed the monitor and video from my computer, rebooted to reinstall drivers. I have swapped out with the same model monitor. The problem remains with the original PC. Any suggestions?

Try change it to a generic video driver and reboot, if the problem persists very likely it’s your video card. If not, go to the manufacturer’s site and look for the most current driver.

      Good Luck!

It sounds like it may be your graphics adapter. If you have a good one try swapping it in and see if you still get the garbled graphics. Good luck!
