Virus affecting Word and Excel Files

by lmcdonald . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

We got hit with 3 viruses and they all appeared at one time so I do not know for sure which one caused the problem. The excel and word files on some (not all) of the USER folders on our Novell server are not accessible. Whenever I (or a user) tries to open a word or excel document that is in a particular (about 7 users) user folder an error comes up saying that the file is in an unrecognizable format.

The 3 viruses we were hit with were w32.sircam.worm@mm, w32klez.gen@mm and w95.hybris.gen.

Does anyone know how I can fix the files? I ran the fix for sircam but it only runs on a c drive (not a network drive) which is where the virus was detected anyway (I don’t think it is the culprit anyway). Unfortunately one of the users affected is the President and then the bookkeeper. All of their month end files are on the user folders (mostly excel).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
