We have been put under a lot of pressure from our Execs regarding VOIP technology. Being a relatively small company, with only 1 main office and no WAN connections there is a lot of pressure for us to use things like Skype or something in that line. The Execs do not want to have a huge Capex outlay. We are a little cautious about using Skype or something like that as we do not want to open additional firewall ports.
I am a loss on how to get non technical guys to understand things like bandwidth, costs of Bandwidth (South Africa bandwidth comes at a premium) and additional ports that VOIP software needs to work adequately.
We currently have a 1MB Internet pipe, this is being solely used for business critical applications. The rest of the users go through a DSL line of 512k.
Has someone else been through this and how was it solved ammicably?
