VPN

Hi,
I have a windows nt 4.0 environment.
If I VPN into the company from home would I or should I be seeing the network from my home computer. In other words when I click Entire network from my home computer(a windows xp prof.) should I be see the network from work in there. Any help would be appreciated

Possibly. The answer depends on whether the firewall allow traffic to and from the NETBios ports.

Have the firewall admin tell you if they are allowing that traffic on the VPN session.

It depends. Allowing netBIOS through the tunnel is first, You may
need to configure that in any firewalls or or VPN settings. Also,
for a remote workstation to access the NT domain boxes it helps
to specify the remote PC's WINS as the Domain WINS. I am
asuming you have WINS running in the NT environment. Also
there can be a resonable delay from logon until they show over a
slow link. try using 'net view' command to view the domain. At a
command prompt type:

net view /domain:domainname

Sending Netbios over the VPN is not a good idea because of all the overhead you will create with the extra broadcasts.

If you need to connect to a device, map to it using the IP address of the device and it will work just fine.
