    VPN and DNS/WINS

    Locked

    by joey.tucker ·

What is the proper way to configure DNS and/or WINS to properly use VPN? We are using the Cisco VPN client through a Cisco PIX, the firewall and client are configured but when you access the network via the VPN hostnames are not resolved, just IP addresses. Anyone have any suggestions?

      Try LMHOSTS

WINS can take up to 36 minutes to propagate reolutions for names. You might try accelerating the process with an LMHOSTS file on the remote computer that points to the Domain Controler (hosting the DNS) in the LAN. For Wxp on the remote computer see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314108
