VPN set up correctly but sometimes I don

    Locked

    by bnadavis ·

Someone help me please!!!! I have a VPN connection set up on several computers all over the country. I have two of these computers that can’t seem to get an IP address. I can get IP addresses for the other computers that connect, but not my problem children. They have both worked before and I’m using a Shiva VPN box to connect to. I do get the rest of the DHCP info, just not the address. HELP

I assume that you have an IP range in DHCP setup just for the RAS connections, so that you’ll have as many Ip addresses available as ther number of channels for connection.
My guess is that the computers giving you grief are Windows 95 machines. Iwonder if you have installed on those machines the latest ras update from Microsoft.
Windows 95 machine just doesn’t work right with VPN, there is always problems.

      Good luck!

folks, we aren’t using RAS at all. We are using a NIC card and a DSL modem that has an assigned IP address. On the other hand, I’m not having problems with the NT machines at all, but the 95 and 98 machines are a big headache.

You need to ensure that the DHCP IP pool has enough IP addresses to be allocated to your VPN client.

You are using Shiva box to connect establish the VPN tunnel, please ensure that the VPN clients are using multiple remote users for a tunnel rather than a single remote user for a tunnel.
