vpn setup–using end point router vs RRAS

by lacombpcs . Updated 16 years, 8 months ago

I need some clarification as to which is better to use for connecting to a server to access a database.

I have a MS 2003 server with RRAS setup and a dlink-330 router. I get stopped at the verifying username and password screen. I copied the settings for the RRAS from another server that I can vpn into but it uses a linksys router.

Question 1–if I am using the vpn on the dir-330 router, do I disable the RRAS on the server? and if so how do I access the shared database–map a drive using the ip address of the server?

Question 2– if I turn off the vpn on the router and just let it passthrough does the dir-330 allow that and if so where is that setting? I have setup port forwarding and a firewall rule to allow port 1723. The user is using the server credentials to log in and it is allowed for dial in service. But something is still blocking the complete login. Thanks.
