I have a problem setting up good VPN access.
My home network where I am trying to connect to is set up as a workgroup, the router is a netgear DG834 which has DHCP enabled for the LAN. I am connecting via my laptop remotely using a 3G Card to a machine behind the router.

I have managed to connect using PPTP to this machine although when I click view workgroup computers nothing shows up except my laptop.

If I search for computers from the laptop for the machine behind the firewall/router it shows up (although slow) and I can eventually see the folders/files.

Why does the computers not show up in workgroups? and why are file access so slow?

I have read some pieces and suspect this has to do with not having a WINS server set.
I am not sure how you set this up; in the remote client do you set the ip address of the wins server? on the other machines on the local network do you have to set the same wins server? on the machine that is the wins server do you have to set up its own ip address for a wins server? on the wins server is there some sort of file you have to create like the lmhosts file? please help this much confused person.
