We had a issue where when accessing webdav folders(through my network places)it gives an errosr saying " Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server". The issue kind of resolved by stopping and disabling the webclient service through services console. However stopping the web client service breaks something else(access \\alias via UNC) because of which we cannot keep it disabled.
The web client service stopped -- we can access webdav folder through my network places(explorer view) but cannot access \\alias through UNC. It opens a blank page , doesnt show the shares.
The web client service started(automatic) - we can acess \\alias without any problem but accessing the webdav folder through my network places gives the error " Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server".
I am trying to understand, how accessing \\alias through UNC is breaking when we keep the service(web client) in stop mode. How is it using the web client service to work?
Also is there any way i can keep the web client service running and let both the things to work fine?
How is accessing \\alias through UNC related to webclient service?
Please note that its only \\alias that opens a blank page . \\alias\foldername gives the error "network path not found". \\hostname, \\ip, \\fqdn works absolutely fine.
