Website that monitors other web sites

By alex.barclay@metagroup. ·
Hi!

What I am looking for is a website that lists when one of the major dotcom websites (Ebay, Amazon, etc.) goes down. Does anyone know of such a site?

Celeste

Slashdot or CNN may cover the event, but I do not know of an actual "whois down" server. You could easily write your own in perl/java (and measure response time). Use your language of choice and issue an 'http get' command. Use the script to generate html/xml with the results.

If you are using an Enterprise Management tool, such as ITO or Patrol, you can configure those to perform this action.

However, be careful how often you are checking, and what you are checking. Most sysadm's will not appreciate much intrusiveness.

Keynote.com monitors a number of key web sites and posts the results on their site.

Their are a number of other online services that you can configured to monitr web sites on a subscriton basis (keynte,mercury-inc,siteangel). I believe these are limted to just web site monitoring and are the based on the vendors software.

I have heard that a new european site will be set-up (ebusinessassure.com) before the end of the year to monitor internet services (emial, web, ftp etc), ecommerce transactions, competitves benchmarks(compariosons) and exdtranet service level agreements.

Also, following on from the previos reply their are a number of software applications such as Agilents Firehunter and Micromuse's Internet Service Modules(something like this)

Regards

Anthony
