What has been your company’s experience with Tablet PCs?

If your company is currently using Tablet PCs, what has been your exeprience with them? What do they do a better job of than laptops or PDAs? What keeps them from being more useful than they currently are?

If you aren’t currently using TabletPCs but are looking to deploy them, what is it that is attracting you to the Tablet PC platform? What would you like a Tablet PC to be able to do, ideally?

      Testing Toshibas

We’re testing a Toshiba tablet (sorry, I don’t have the exact model name; I’m off site). We have a department that views technical drawings and blueprints on the tablet. Without going into details why, the product being constructed must often be made with changes from the original drawing. The technicians build the product as needed, then draw the changes to the drawing on the tablet right on the factory floor where they can see what they’ve done. The revised drawing goes back to the draftsman, who then makes the final drawing reflect the actual construction.

We have found the overall perfomance of the Toshiba to be somewhat slower than expect. This seems to be the machine itself, regardless of the connection type, Cat-5 or wireless.

Toshiba Portege M400’s are slow. I mean, S-L-O-W. And that’s with a gig of RAM.

What attracts me to tablet PC’s especially small ones like the UMPC or HP 12.1″ is the cross between a desktop, a notebook and a PDA.
