what rights does the backup exec service need to run backup jobs.

By dduck10 ·
What rights does the backup exec service account need to run backup jobs. I have a exterprise windows 2003 server installed with BEC. My jobs fail unless I add the backup operator to the domain admin group?? I feel this is a great security risk. What exact rights does this account need.

backup operator. use it.

it is a pretty secure way to go. i'd read up on what rights backup operator has. i would also research this question on the backup exec website. btw, you don't need to add the account to the domain admins group, do you? how about just on the resources needing backing up?

In my experience

In my experience, I have given the service account doing the backups local admin rights to the server. since, most of the time, the person who administers the server, also backs up the server, its not a huge security risk.
