What subnetmask to use?

by jstevens . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

We have a network with 4 individual domains in 4 differant cities. Each running NT4 servers. Each domain has a PDC/WINS/DHCP server. Each domain also has an internally unique set of IP addresses in its DHCP scope. (10.10.1.X, 10.10.2.X, 10.10.3.X and 10.10.4.X with subnet masks of 255.255.255.0) With newly installed dedicated T-1 lines, we want to remove the servers from 3 of the domains and consolidate them into one central domain.

I can setup individual scopes on the new DHCP server for each city to corrispond with the scope that their DHCP server once contained. Here is my question: Can I continue to function with the current subnet mask of 255.255.255.0? If not, why?

Also, any good websites of referance books to help explain this would be appreciated.

Thanks!
