What's this?

By wompai ·
Hey, guys

Could you tell me what this is?

These are pictures I've taken from my motherboard. Its a three-pinned slot wich looks like the slot of a fan, but its tilted 90 degrees, facing the front of my desktop PC. Under it is the text: "hood sense P125''. I want to know what this is for. Can anybody help me?

Thanks in advance

(sorry for the poor picture quality by the way)

Most probably for the manufacturers testing equipment..

This pin slot looks as though it could be for the manufacturers testing equipment. Testing of the motherboard before shipment. Though i could be wrong.

It looks very much like a slot for a fan and it has only three pins, how can you ever get good information about a complete motherboard with only three pins??? Though I could be wrong too...

Could that be for physical intrusion detection?

by seanferd In reply to What's this?

A lot of new machines, especially those designed for enterprise environments, have an alert setting in BIOS setup that lets you know when the chassis has been opened. It could be that this is where the detector would be connected to the mobo.

HP tech docs make reference to the "Smart Cover (hood) Sense" so it looks like this is the answer
search for "hood sense" and you'll find the description and the pinout.
There are similar entries in several docs, so if it's not the correct model, the function is the same according to the Tech Ref guide.
