When i ping one computer name i get another computers ip address

By cneylon ·
Hi

i am trying to connect to one of the computers on my network but when i ping it i get the ip address of another computer on the network. If i try to connect using vnc or remote desktop it also connects to that computer. I checked the network setttings on the computer it's connecting to and it definitly has a different name and there doesn't seem to be anything connecting the two.

Has anyone come across this problem or something similiar who knows the cause?

Thank you

Go into DHCP management

And remove the entry for the first machine.

You will need to do an 'ipconfig /release' 'ipconfig /renew' on the computer to get it back into DHCP properly.

From what I have seen in the past, this has happened when a PC was not used for a while and the IP lease expired, then another PC was given the original address.
Once the original PC turns on it gets a new IP address, but DHCP doesn't update.

Yeah this one was figured out for me by my manager, he said exactly that. Cheers
