Where can I find instructions for setting up a new AD Domain from scratch?

By jonathan ·
Hi, I'm looking to set up a new Domain using a Windows 2008R2 server. I'm looking for some source of documentation that will list the concepts to create it. If there is a step-by-step guide, even better.

I plan to convert peoples' local computer accounts to Domain accounts and enable roaming profiles. There are so many roles that a server can do, which ones do I actually need to enable?

The minimum roles are DNS and Active Directory Services are required for Domain Accounts.
For roaming profiles you need disk space and configure roaming profile via 'Profile' tab for user properties in Active Directory Users and Computers console (see RSAT tools). Use the Server Manager tool to start off the wizard.

Thanks, I need to convert the local profiles to roaming rather than new "blank" accounts.

Darn it, I knew I should have used Bing, not Google, for a MS related search!

Yep it's the only place that I have found Bing to be of any use

Even then it's not that great as the first couple of searches took me to the Web and away from M$ itself.
