Which files get backed up for sys state

By ewebby ·
Can anyone tell me where I could find which files get backed up when doing a system state backup. I am looking for a list of all the files microsoft says that it's nt sys state backs up. I have found lots of articles on how to do one using NT backup, but nothing on which files it is grabbing.

Thanks
Kevin B

You can find the files in

%SystemRoot%\repair

they are:

AutoExec.NT
Config.NT
ntuser.dat
default.dat
SAM
secsetup.inf
Security
Setup.Log
Software
System

the DAT files I am almost certain are parts of the registry. The SAM file is the System User Database (Usernames, password hashes, groups & group membership). Security I am almost certain is the Security Policy, Software I think its the Software hive of HKLM and System the System Hive of HKLM.

I'm not sure about the exact files that are backed up, a system state backup will backup:
- registry
- component services class registration DB
- system startup files

If the machine is a certificate server then the certificate services DB is backed up as well, and a Domian Controller will also back Active directory and the SYSVOL folder
