Which language to learn

By slam5 ·
I am a tech support specialist who is currently on disability. I like to learn some general programming languages that is useful for web programming and such. I will like to eventually like to be retrained in IT security. What is the best programming to learn? C++/QBasic? PERL? XML? Is there a place online that I can learn it at? I have a lot of time and can learn on my own. Cost is a consideration for me as I am on disability.

depends

this depends on what you want to do, but you can't go wrong w/ c++. most newer languages are very similar. also doesn't let you cheat like a crappy language like vb, so you can get your hands a little dirty.
