Why do PCs seem to lose the connection to the domain?

I work in a Tertiary Educational Institution.We run a number of computer laboratories consisting of roughly 50 - 70 PCs per lab all running Windows XP SP3.Recently a number of problems have suddenly started appearing, viz.:
1. Internet access seems to be intermittent when students login to the domain.In a particular lab, some students may be able to access the Net whilst others can't. If the students with no access go to another lab, then they may be able to get get Internet access there, so its not like certain students are restricted whilst others aren't.If, however, one logs in locally to the PC, Internet access is no problem.Only when logging in to the domain first does it sometimes become a problem.
2.During tests and exams, students login to the Domain at the start of the session and have access to all the shared folders on the server.However, at the end of the test(about 2 hours later), when they need to save their work from the desktop into a shared folder, some PCs request a username and password.When the student attempts to enter their username and password it says that those credentials are already in use and they cannot login again with the same credentials.The only solution then is to logout and log back in again.
3.Symantec Ghost multicast is used to Ghost the labs.Last week a lab was left to ghost overnight and the next morning it was found that only 1 PC had ghosted.The others all had "timed out" messages displayed.

We are now lost as to what the problem is.Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
