Why does my Internet connection keep shutting on and off?

Well i hope someone can help me decide on what to do. I have a linksys router and it seems to be working fine. We have 3 laptops. It appears mine continuously keeps losing connection while it says very good strength. I sometimes lose it for a good 5 mins. I would assume my laptop might need a new wireless internet card? or since my sisters does it but not as bad could it be a need a new router? or is it just normal lol

It could be several things here

The most obvious is that the Router is for some reason dropping one of the currently connected WiFi Connections.

If the Router is correctly setup to support 3 Concurrent Connections the most obvious is a Incompatibility with the OS on the system/s that this is the main offender.

But the most obvious is that the Router is not set to accept 3 Concurrent Connections. To do this enter the Routers Setup through the HTTP Address and set it to allow 3 concurrent connections on the WiFi side of things.

Another possibility is that the Router has been hit by a Power Spike and is partially scrambled the cure this all you need do is unplug it from it’s Power Adapter for about 10 seconds then plug it back in and when it boots up the problem will be cured if that was the issue. 😉

Thanks man. Im gonna check my router setting and make sure that it was the problem. I assumed since the router was pretty old i would need to replace it. Ive always had issues with the wireless internet with my labtop. Maybe the router was always the source of the problem.

Check for radio interference

Check for other wireless networks in the vicinity which may be using the same wireless (or adjacent) channels. It’s also worth looking into whether there could be other sources of radio interference could be coming into play here, particularly if the issues occur at particular times (Microwave ovens, cordless phones, video sender etc). If you’re using a manufacturer provided wireless tool you’ll probably be able to view the signal to noise ratio as these issues occur.
