Why the big fuss over IPv6?

by jayrigged . Updated 16 years, 9 months ago

Why can’t we take an IPv4 NAT approach to the solution for IPv6?

Take a private address such as 192.168.1.1

Apply a subnet mask such as 255.255.255.0

Using NAT map a private address from the network in the example to a public IPv6 Address

I have the theory that just like some ISPs used to use NAT port address Translation to map several private addresses to one Public IP address (an unacceptable approach because it does not provide 1:1 in IPv4) that we could implement this approach to mapping a private IPv4 address to a public IPv6 address.

This would virtually eliminate the need for massive hardware changes in end devises.
