Why won't digital camera driver upgrade?

By SimGehlen ·
I have an old cheapie digital camera, given as an incentive for joining a dial-up service for six months. Cheap, but it's always worked very well. I've recently upgraded my system to Win XP Pro. Went to the website of the manufacturer and downloaded the Win XP driver upgrade [which requires uninstalling the previous driver and then running a cleanup software to remove references to the previous driver from the Registry]. I've followed the instructions to the letter, several times, and the system still doesn't recognize the camera is present. Any ideas? Thanx

The manufacturer may not have support for updated drivers for yur camera ,since it is a promotional item ,to which there is possible limited support from the manufacturer

On the other hand it would be best to check the HCL to see if the camera iscompatible to Windows XP.

Try using the Add/New Hardware wizard to try and load the software

As I said, I went to the Manufacturer's website, they DID have a Win XP Driver Upgrade, which I downloaded. Manufacturer says camera IS Win XP compatible. Add New Hardware wizard, Add a Scanner or Camera, none are successful.

1. Have you downloaded and installed the XP compatability updats?

2. What port does the camera use?
Do you have another device that can be connected tot he same port to verify that the port is working in XP?

3. Please provide more system details;
Motherboard, CPU, RAM,
Camera model and web site link.

4. My best guess is that the port is not communicating properly with XP, and you need a new driver for your motherboard to properly support the port.
