win 95b and acer configuration for quick

By kmahalick ·
I am working on an Acer computer with a V65LA motherboard. When shutdown the system does not go on to the final shutdown screen. It remains in the Windows is now shutting down (logow.sys) state. Has anyone worked on these machines who might know what the culprit maybe?

Had same problem with a compaq and generic PC with abit motherboard. BIOS ugrade fixed the problem in both cases - try the upgrade to the motherboard from acer or motherboard manufacturer.

If you have already tried that you need to check the microsoft technet site for Hardware compatibility list for this machine and also known problems.

I had a Windows NT which did not shut down and it was due to the particular network card drivers on my machine!

Also try www.windowsupdate.com from your 95 machine and you should get the latest operating system fixes for your machine - need to use internet explorer.

Good luck.

I have to agree with spicyman@netscape.net that a network card that is installed in a computer without proper drivers wil cause this problem. I have had similar problems with Intel motherboards and Asus motherboards.

The Acer computer(s) in question have problems with certain versions of IE Explorer especially the active desktop. Install the lastest version if IE or better yet switch to netscape but the real culprit is probably active desktop, make sure it is disabled.
