Hi,
First of all check system minimum requirements:
http://www.microsoft.com/catalog/display.asp?site=10025&subid=22&pg=3
Also you can try with a boot diskette from:
http://www.bootdisk.com
Give as more detail about how you tried to install Win98 (booting from CD-ROM, diskette, boot diskette was made on a Win98 system, hardware resources).

Remove the diskette from the 3 1/2 disk drive. That is a utility boot disk which loads fdisk and format and a few other utilities needed to start the install process for win 98. If win 98 has not completely installed merely rerun setup from the CDrom drive.
Good luck

Create a Win98 startup disk
Insert in floppy and boot computer
At the command prompt, type in fdisk /mbr
Reboot and return to prompt and type in FDISK
proceed to partition the hard drive and format

Boot comuter and at command prompt type sys c: to transfer files to hard drive

You will want to check the motherboard manufactuters web site for Bios update

Once you have the necessary files you will need to check the bios to make sure that you have the boot sequence correct (C,CD-ROM,A:)

Using the startup disk boot compputer and select in safe mode and select to run Setup w/cd rom support

heres a trick :

Get hold of another hard drive , swap it in place of the installed one .

next boot with a win98 boot disk and sellect with cdrom support , if this works , go on too next step .

make sure hard drive is fat32
note : fat32 will not format drives 500mb>

now depending on your drive sequence , assuming that "c" is hrd drive , and "d" is cdrom .

type the following after the dos prompt

a:\xcopy32 d. c /e/c/h/r/k

cdrom files will now transfer too hard drive .
when done , swap original drive back and set as master , and the drive with win98 copied onto it , set it too slave .

then reboot system into dos , no need cdrom now , the drive you want too access will be either D or E , when you see setup.exe, just type it and away you go .

enjoy ,
