Win 98/ME installation problem sys hangs

By grdorn1 ·
I'v attempted to install Win98SE and ME on 2 identical machines (older) i440bx chipset PC's at 266mhz and 350Mhz. The O/S freezes while attempting to install on both machines and I've changed memory a couple of times and of course the Memory always checks out OK on boot up. What can be the problem I'm stupified?

It could still be a RAM issue.

Do you have more than 511MB of RAM?
If so, dropping back to 256 or 384MB should correct the problem.

I have had RAM that tests fine on the motherboard POST, but does not work at all with Windows.

I had one set of DIMMs that would not work in a number of motherboards, or with other brand DIMMs.

Never did figure out why. But when I found a motherboard that they worked in, I got rid of them as fast as I could.
