Win 98 Shoutdown

When i shout my windows 98 down it hugs at windows is shouting down, it never shouts down it stays on until i put the pc off at the switch.what can i do to stop that.

This is a known bug in Windows 98.
The free update to fix this is at the Microsoft website.

One thing about Win98 is that it always seems to be shutting down. whether by force or the START button.

The last post is correct, this is a VERY common bug and there is a patch. I've seen the oatch fix about 40% of the times I've installed it. If it doesn't work for you, you can look at other power management options but it is usually just as easy to hit the Power Button and kill it yourself.

Cute! Time to update yourself FYI Microsoft has removed almost all win95 and win98 fixes and patches and definately all support since they insist that people should be using winXp or at least Win2K.

You are right they used to have the patch to fix the shutdown problem now it's just a dead link.

In some circumstances the video driver can cause the same problem. If the suggestions already mentioned do not work try deleting the video driver completely and reinstalling it.

Try going to
to get latest patch and also check there is no TSR programs that are preventing your machine closing down ie: Anti Virus.
