Win XP

By s.w.kraft ·
I am running Windows XP Pro and ever since I installed it, there is a continuous, flurry of hard disk access activity and it is driving me nuts!!!!! I have tried everything to turn it off but it continues. I would imagine that it has to do with Win XP optimizing the disk structure, or something, because I never had it before with previous verstions of windows. Any suggestions on how to eliminate this very troublesome activity will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Sid Kraft

System check

I've seen this twice with XP. Although I'm not an avid XP user, these were my findings.

1) First incident was due to backdoor trojan worm. A user was "sharing' my friends bandwidth, a firewall and port scan fixed this.

2) You may have Spywarerunning that has mysteriously installed itself in your PC. Visit and download AdAware, it will search for apps running in the background, you'll probably be quite surprised at the amount of crap that is actually happeningwhile you try to quietly surf the net.
