Yes, the net is the best place to find current drivers. You need to know the manufacturers/models of your hardware.

I'd also recommend you purchase Norton Ghost 2002 (or something similar) and create a complete ghost of the current image before wiping the hdd clean. Backups are great!

I would check your recovery disk. Often there is a directory called Drivers or somesuch that has specific drivers for that setup. The other really neat thing is from the 20 or so XP installations I have done so far, is that XP is wonderful about finding its own drivers. As long as you are attached to the internet, it installs, and then goes out for any questionable drivers and finds one itself. (Of course, if it has problems with your modem, its a little hard). But first go to your recovery CD and look for the drivers. There might be separate directories for sound/vid/etc, but if you install XP and it asks for a driver, send it to your recovery cd first - then let it look at the internet. Good luck! I really haven't had any driver problems yet - knock on wood!

See this site at Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/tips/maintain/finddrivers.asp

There are no spaces in the above URL. I found it via this page (which also has some useful information):

While I agree with the statements above about the ease of installation of drivers for Win XP, I feel I should add the warning that you should look carefully at your system for Legacy devices before updating to Win XP. Then, visit the manufacturers websites before doing the upgrade and make sure they have an updated driver. I have several Legacy devices, including my favorite Xerox Scanner/Printer/Fax device for which the manufacturer has NOT produced a Win XP Driver update, nor do they intendto.
