Win XP/MS VPN client (PPTP) can’t access resoure in My Network Places

Hi Guru’s,

I have a Win XP client w/sp3. It connects to the internet via wireless. The firewall in use is Checkpoint NGX.

I can connect to a remote location (Small Business Server 2003 R2) domain via MS VPN client (PPTP). When I search for the (NetBIOS) computers on the local network…I get nothing can be located. From the Win XP wireless client (command prompt), I can ping and run tracert successfully using the static IP addresses (external and internal/NAT)for the DC, Fortigate router, Netopia 3347 wireless router, the network printer(s).

I can telnet to port 1723, 4125, etc. from the Win XP wireless client. I made sure that GRE 47 is enabled on the Checkpoint (client location) firewall and the Fortigate router/firewall (DC location. When I connect to the domain controller (SBS 2003 Server) location and search for computer on the local network…I get NOTHING. The SBS server RASS shows to client connected.

The client VPN configuration = PPTP, Use Default Gateway, Register DNS Suffix and I added WINS IP address. The client IP address is being fetched from the local DHCP (72.X.X.X) IP config shows IP info. = DNS, Gateway, etc. all being from 72.X.X.X network. The network where the SBS Server = 192.168.1.X. The same network address for the Netopia, Fortigate, server, etc.

For the LOVE of GOD…I can not figure this one out. Is the problem with the Checkpoint firewall? I used my Linksys wireless router (at home) to connect my laptop and Desktop PC (exact replica (OS) of the Win XP wireless client, had absolutely NO PROBLEMS AT ALL accessing ALL of the resources at the SBS 2003 environment.

I went next door to Star buck w/laptop and connected to AT&T wireless and had absolutely NO PROBLEMS. When I got to the location where the Win XP client…I can connect to SBS 2003 but can’t see ANYTHING in My Network Places…the same is true when I hook my laptop (the same one I used at home and at Star Bucks / AT&T wireless) at the location where the Checkpoint firewall / Win XP SP3 client is located.

WOW!! Cant’ figure out what I am doing wrong…if any. I think it must be the Checkpoint firewall…What do you think.

Thanks a MILLION!!!!
