Win XP Pro connection

By r.reich ·
I have a small workgroup with 6 computers on it. I have one computer which I cannot get to connect to the internet at all. It is visible to the other workgroup computers and I can access it through remote desktop without any trouble. I've tried using a different port in the switch and using a swapping cables from a computer I had no trouble with but no luck. If I set it to DHCP it will connect for a few hours then go "Offline" again. I'm thinking I may have a bad NIC but not sure. This is a brand new computer I added to the workgroup to replace one that finally died.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What is the Topology and OS in use here

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to Win XP Pro connection

If it is Windows XP Home that is the Gateway it has a Upper Limit of 5 Concurrent Connections and any extra will be not accepted till they are either removed or another system is removed.

That is the obvious thing here.

But to double check the Hardware you can use the Ultimate Boot CD to test everything in the hardware side of things to rule out that if you like It's free.

Found the problem

Someone (me) had accidentally set the gateway on the second NIC which is a direct cable to a server with a gateway address.
