WIN2000 PRO Computer Restarting

By kimscomputing ·
My Celeron 1700 computer with WIN2000 loaded will not start. It boots and begins to load Win2000 and when it gets close to finishing it reboots. I have tried pulling the ram & replacing the video card but no help. I know McAfee was running and up to date.

Can you boot in Safe mode?

Was it working before and have you installed something new (driver, software)?

Have you tried the Last Known Good Configuration?

I have tried booting into safe mode and last good configuration. I have not added anything recently. Last week I added a jump drive but that is it.

Have you tried to uninstall this device?

Have you tried to use the Recovery Console?
If needed:
* To install the Recovery Console on your system:
winnt32 /cmdcons
* Fix the Master Boot Record (MBR) in case it was corrupted by a virus or another problem. Previously, this might have involved using DOS FDISK (fdisk /mbr). The command: fixmbr.

Try running the Fdisk /mbr that should highlight any problems with the boot sector but can also Identify a Virus.

If you get errors when trying to run this from a boot disk, then repartition the drive using Fdisk and try formating one of the partitions, If you start to get a lot of bad sectors when formatting it would suggest that your HD is on it's last legs and it's time to invest in a new one. You can usually go years without ever having to replace it then there are always the exceptions m8.

Try it,

hope this helps

best regards

I replaced the hard drive to save problems in the future and installed WinXP.

After you run fdisk mbr, If you are in a position to do this (all files are backed up) wipe the hard drive, repartition and reformat then do a clean install.
